Robert Kannapien
PERSONAL - Robert lives in Spokane, Washington with his wife, Sheri, and they have four kids; Amelia (27), Reed (24), Matt (21), and Audrey (16). He works in commercial real estate sales, leasing, and management. Robert took up golf at the age of 8.
TIE TO THE MONTEMAR - Robert met Troy Szabo at Troy’s sister’s house in La Quinta. I don’t know how that all happened but I doubt it’s as exciting as my mind makes it up to be. I met Troy somewhere on the Mackenzie course at Haggin Oaks and the only thing exciting about that was after the round when I realized I had met a guy who was willing to skip work, golf with me daily, and occasionally star in my videos - also not as exciting as it sounds.
Robert has lived in the Spokane/CDA area for 31 years and comes into this tournament with way more course knowledge than anybody. He’s reiterated what I’ve heard from anybody who’s played the two main CDA courses, and that’s the sentiment that Circling Raven is an amazing golf course. Hence the reason we chose that one to play twice. According to Troy he’s a good guy and another great fit for this tournament. It will be interesting to see if he pulls a Jackson Lambirth by playing the local tournament his first year then jumping on board the next.

WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN - Robert will quickly learn, as Troy did last year, it’s nearly impossible for a rookie to win this thing. This is because we’ve added a quirk or two to stop that from happening. That said, his 8 handicap is better than most, he knows the courses better than all, and he’ll be scrambling with the most competitive old guy we have in this thing. I expect Rob to finish somewhere in the top of the rookie class in 2024, and if he makes in back in 2025, he’ll have as good of a shot at that jacket as anybody.

FUN FACT - I’ll say it again in case we have any skimmers. Rob has played both these courses a bunch of times. He joins a long list of people I’ve talked to who have played both and the first thing I hear from all these guys is praise for Circling Raven.
