Jeff Thorne
PERSONAL - Jeff lives on Bainbridge Island, Washington with his girlfriend, Brenda. He has three kids; Matix (16), Skyler (24), and stepson Hayden (29). He works as an electrician and does some consulting as well. Jeff took up golf way back in middle school, is a member at Whitehorse Golf Club, and is always down for a golf trip with the boys.
Like many of us, Jeff is a Kitsap guy and we could probably tie him into this tournament a hundred different ways. The two that are probably the easiest and most direct are through Jay Cleveland, who he met at a party over 30 years ago and who has become a main golfing buddy; and through Jordan Henry, a work and fishing buddy.
ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MONTEMAR - Jeff is scheming up something good here. Thanks, Jeff!
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IN 2024 - I’ve been pumping Jay Cleveland up as my favorite to win this thing for a couple months now, mainly because he’s the only one of the handful of guys with the skill to do it who also has the ability to read and comprehend what he’s read. Until I started writing Jeff’s profile, my biggest concern for Jay was his scramble team. I wasn’t sure if he had the firepower in his group to garner him the scramble points needed to win this thing. Then I looked up Jeff’s index. A 2.7 while mainly playing at White Horse means Jay invited himself a stick. At 50 years old I’m going to guess Jeff no longer drives it 380 yards. He’s probably ripping apart golf courses with finesse and that’s really good news for Jeff and Jay in our lose your club scramble. While the young guns and big sticks are struggling to make pars without their drivers and woods, this group, assuming Jay locks up Jeff for the scramble (I still haven’t had those groupings sent so it may get blown up) may stay cruising. Who Jeff and Jay choose as their 3rd and 4th will play a monumental role in how it all plays out. Half the points are handicap based, and due to the format it’s going to be real hard to go real low. Some bad golfers may be a great fit for these guys for Sunday’s round. I’d normally say rookies can’t win this thing, but anybody with 2.7 is going to be in play. Jeff will have to pick Jay’s brain on the strategy of it all and hope to catch some luck with the random stuff. He’ll be one to look out for for ROY.
ODDS TO WIN – 22-1
FUN FACT – Jeff raced motocross for many years and has broke most of his bones. He’s also a big outdoorsmen who loves to fly fish and bow hunt elk back country.
