Brian Sutton
PERSONAL – Brian lives in Mukilteo Washington with his wife, Cricket and sons Mason (9) and Bennett (8). He’s the VP of operations for a sub-prime auto finance company, where he’s been working for nearly 20 years. Brian picked up golf in college but didn’t start playing often until his late 20s/early 30s. Now he only gets to play about once per month due to youth sports taking over his life. Many of us can relate.
TIE TO THE MONTEMAR – Brian met Jay Cleveland in his frat at WSU. Jay was his big brother and they bonded over their shared love of some things I won’t put on the internet for their sake, but will say they are things we all love. Now he’s a big family man but can still get after it with the rest of them. Good, because that’s what this trip is for.
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. Brian coaches his kid’s baseball and basketball teams and, like most of us, is pretty much a sports nut. Unlike most of us, his wife is better than him at golf. I think Edwin can relate to the feeling, but in a different way, as Edwin’s daughter is a plus 4 handicap who can beat us all in golf. As I’m thinking this through though, it’s probably not the worst thing to have a wife who loves to golf. Brian seems like another guy who’s a great fit for this tournament and hopefully we keep him on board for many years to come.
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IN 2024 – Brian says he’s short, fat, and bald with an 18 handicap. I think he’s being hard on himself but the good news is The Montemar may be the only 80 person golf tournament in the world Brian has a chance to win. It won’t happen his first year because we’ve got sneaky things in place to stick it to rookies, but down the road he’s got as good of a shot as almost anybody. The tips I have for Brian this year are to get on Jay’s scramble team, hit as many par 3s in regulation as possible, and draft a duo he can beat. He does those three things and there’s not reason he can’t sneak up on the leaderboard if he catches some luck in the random stuff.
ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MONTEMAR – Brian is donating a $100 gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings. Thanks, Brian!
ODDS TO WIN – 108-1
FUN FACT – Brian is still distraught over the Pac-12 situation, understandably. Even funnier fact – this is the second profile in a row where somebody’s told me their mood has been severely impacted by something having to do with sports.
