Evan Powell
PERSONAL - Evan lives in San Ramon, California with his wife Valerie, and their sons Mason (11), Lucas (5), and Caleb (4). He’s a former AD and Principal who now works as an HR director. Evan started playing golf at the age of 15, but didn’t start taking it seriously until 23. Like most of us can say, he’s still not very good.
Make it stand out
TIE TO THE MONTEMAR - Evan has a fun story for how we all got to know him. Evan met Jake through Jake’s wife’s (Heather) ex boyfriend, who was a neighbor of Jake’s dad. Evan’s wife Valerie and Jake’s wife Heather have always been close so when Jake started dating Heather he not only got a wonderful lady, he got a new bestie in Evan, who’s as good as they get. We all met Evan shortly after that and now it just feels like he’s always been there. I used to have a blast playing on Evan’s softball teams and he’s always been a great guy to be around. A great husband and a great father who spends most of his free time coaching his kid’s baseball teams. He made the trip to Scottsdale last year, but was injured, and we’re pumped to have him playing in 2024.
ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MONTEMAR - Evan asked what we needed and I just realized I hadn’t answered him. You can never go wrong with a box of ProV1s!
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IN 2024 - Evan has a tiny leg up on the rest of the rookie class because he rode along for the tournament in Scottsdale. That gave him a first hand look at the scoring system and format. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that Evan will find a way to pair up with Puckett and Noonan for Sunday’s scramble. Who they decide to take with their fourth - I’m raising my hand, guys - may determine if Evan is able to squeeze out a top 20 finish in his first appearance. A highish handicapper capable of hitting all the shots and making a lot of putts - I’m raising my hand again, guys - would probably be the solution considering the gross and net divisions for that day. Evan saw the draft last year and if he can use the knowledge he learned to pick well, we may see Evan as a top rookie in 2024. Regardless of what happens on the course, I know he’ll have fun off it.
ODDS TO WIN - 56-1
FUN FACT - Delivered his own daughter. I don’t know the details with this but I’m going to imagine it was in a moving vehicle.
